The New Deal

The New Deal was when a whole group of organizations started a whole bunch of programs, that started with laws passed by Roosevelt to start the three R's. These three R's were Relief, Recovery, and Reform, all to appeal to each class of person, lower, middle, and higher.

FDIC - Federal Deposit Insurance Commission: The purpose of this organization was to have the banks of America ensure stability, and it gave men and women insurance on their  money if the bank was robbed up to 250,000 dollars.

SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission): The purpose of this organization was to regulation the stock market, and prevent corruption.

TVA - Tennessee Valley Authority: The purpose of this organization was to provide electricity, navigation, flood control, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley.

SSA - Social Security Act: The purpose of this organization was to provide a social security system for Americans.

NLRA - National Labor Relations Board: The purpose of this was to control elections and labor unions in the united states.

WPA - Works Progress Administration: The purpose of this organization was to provide unemployed people with jobs doing public services.

FLSA - Fair Labor Standards Act: The purpose of this organization was  to guarantee workers certain privileges, such as the maximum of the 44 hour work week, and the time and a half rule.

Prohibition

This is a picture of a speakeasy Source
During the Prohibition, the sale and distribution of alcohol became illegal in the united states. Even though it became illegal to drink alcohol, many people still found ways to get it, and still indulged in its effects. This made everyone a criminal. People began to think of the idea of a law as something unworthy of their respect, and they began to lose respect for all laws in general. Overall this made society somewhat of a more dangerous place. The Following Photo of bootleggers, men who would smuggle alcohol into the us to distribute illegally. Bootleggers would sell their booze to people in special places known as speakeasies. Overall we learned from the prohibition that the best thing to do rather than to get rid of alcohol, was to make sure it was properly moderated.

USS Maine

Source
The U.S.S. Maine was a American war ship that had blown up from unknown causes, most likely a fire near the ammunition room. When the ship blew up the U.S. believed that this was done by Spain as an act of war, which was a major stepping stone in this war.

Lifeboats rescue surviving crewmen of the wrecked USS Maine anchored in Havana, Cuba, after an explosion destroyed the battleship in 1898, serving as the catalyst for the outbreak of the Spanish-American War. AP/WIDE WORLD PHOTOS.

In this photo of the ship, it shows the ship after the explosion

WW1

Source

In this image, soldiers are hiding underneath and overturned carriage in search of safety. I feel as though this picture helps us to better our understanding of WW1 because it show the desperation of many of the soldiers. In the war many people died, and I think that in this image, I feel like if these two soldiers had to resort to this, then how many other people were forced to find safety.

JFK

Source
In this photo it shows JFK winding up to throw the first pitch of a baseball game. I feel as though this image shows how people considered JFK to be just another person as well as their president. This photo allows you to see how people interacted with him in the 1960's, and how much of a normal person he was, instead of being just a president. By being able to interact with the people and share their views, i feel as though he made himself the best president he could possibly be.

Revised Blog

Origional Post:

Source
The Native American experience with western expansion was a horrible one. With the Americans forcing them off of their own land, they were basically forced to leave their homes and be forced to live on small amounts of land. as the Americans began to make budget cuts, they began to supply the Native Americas with less and less, forcing many into starvation and death. At the beginning when the war was still going on, the American killed off all of the Indian supplies. By eliminating the buffalo, the Americans were getting profit for themselves off of the skin, and getting food to feed the soldiers, but the native Americans were stuck with nothing. when they were left with no supply of food, they were forced to have the American government help them. Another affect on the Native Americans was that the Americans were forcing them to end the practice of their religion. The Americans tried to force their own religion onto the native Americans, and to make sure that they would except them, the Americans made it against the law to do anything related to Native American religions, including singing, dancing, and even praying to the wrong god. To be forced out of your homes and to be made to believe a new religion must have been a traumatizing experience, leaving the Native American's with a lasting hatred towards the Americans who ruined their ways of life.

Revised:
The intersections between the native Americans and the whites that had just arrived, was that of a horrible experience. The were butchered and slaughter in huge numbers, all for the sake of a little bit of land, and some natural resources. They were forced off of their land, and made to live on very small amounts of land, with many people on them. They had no animals to hunt for food, and many went hungry. They had no access to medicine, and if you had gotten sick, you had a very high chance of dying. These communities because filled with poverty, and eventually destroyed the  ways of these people. In some areas, there were even laws against practicing their native religions, and they were forced to become new Americans. To be forced out of their homes must have been a horrible feeling, and I can not imaging myself ever feeling this way.

New York City Tenements

Source
During the many times of poverty, the tenements were buildings in which anyone could afford, but were very low quality building. These buildings housed many people in a single building. These areas were also very commonly filled with poor people, who in return, lived very unhealthy life styles. This picture describes the tenements in a very particular way that I felt necessary because it shows how low quality even the daily necessities were. This toilet is just a box with a hole cut in it that would be shared by everyone in a building. This made it easy for disease to spread, and shows how low quality these tenements were.
