This is an article about the problems with segregation in the board of education. The argument in the Brown V. Board of Education was that the segregation of schools was against the 14th amendment. This was the ending of the "separate but equal", and allowed the desegregation of schools.

 

After the Rosa Parks incident, there was a boycott of all busses, and blacks refuse to take the bus. During the time, they carpooled, and walked everywhere. the loss in money for the bus station and government was so great that they were force to change the laws and give blacks equal rights on the bus.  

In the little rock school crisis, small black children were forced to endure harsh interviews and ridiculous amounts of harassment because they wanted to attend a white only school.

During the times of segregation, there were a large amount of non violent protest and sit-ins. Blacks who participated in these were vigorously beaten with no consequences to the attackers.

One of the biggest protests was the one in Birmingham,. During this time, people were harassed so badly because they wanted to vote, and it got to the point where they would spray blacks away with fire hoses, and even beat many to death.

 

 

During the march on Washington, thousands of people showed up to Washington to show their dismay and refused to leave. In this very place is where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.

 

 

On the Brink of Nuclear War

October 13th, 1962. This picture was taken as proof of missile being in Cuba. It shows that in Cuba, there was a medium range missile that would have the range to reach America. 

October 24th, 1962. This picture provided the sufficient evidence for president Kennedy to start up a Naval blockade.

November 2nd, 1962. The President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, addressed the country personally, warning everyone of the Cuban Missile Crisis

November 10th, 1962. This is a Submarine that belongs to the soviets that was patrolling around Cuba in order to keep it protected from the U.S. and to allow there transport ships easier access.

October 27th, 1962. The U.S. had soldiers guarding their borders.

November 21st, 1962. The U.S. rushes military supplies to Florida to defend the country incase war started.

Holocaust Blog

The definition of the word "Holocaust" is destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war. In a historical definition the word describes the terrible torture and hard times the Jews had to face while the Nazi Party killed them in mass numbers, and stripped them of their rights. The Jews were forced to go through horrible experiences, and suffer from things many people would rather die than to go through them. One major thing the Nazis did to the Jews was stripping them of rights. One thing they took away was their right to stay out as late as they want. the Nazis enforced curfews, and punishment of disobeying was beatings and death. They also made them live in small areas of poverty, taking away their right to choose where they live, and stripping them of their belonging. They also only allowed the Jews to hold a certain amount of money at a time, and anything else either had to be hidden or would be taken away. They had no freedom of speech, and even had to have hidden underground newspaper, to make sure that the Nazis wouldn't find out. Many people even had to stop hiring Jews for workers because they were afraid of their businesses being destroyed, or vandalized. eventually they forced all males to go work in labor camps, and made them loses all of their belongings, besides the close on their backs. Jews had to go through starvation, and beatings, and random assassinations. The torture they went through almost wiped their whole race and religion off the planet. the question at the time was "Why?".

Atomic Blog

The reasoning for Truman to authorize the dropping of the bombs was to end the war as short as possible, and to ensure that the lives of allied countries people under the rule of china could be saved. They ended the war because it forced the men and women of china have to surrender due to many deaths and threats of another bomb.


One of the short term effects and long term effects was the immediate release of all captured people. In this picture the soviets are freeing the captured men.

This is people forced to evacuate their homes so that they don't suffer from the radiation poisoning.

This is one of the people who suffered from burns from radiation coming from the bomb. Many of the people suffered form this, which was one of the short term effects of the bombing.



This is a doctor who was poisoned from the bombing, which caused him to die just a few days after watching his town get completely destroyed, and have his land completely destroyed.

One of the short term effects of the bombing was that many who lived there were forced to move away, if they were not injured or killed from the bombing.

Pearl Harbor Bombing: The importance of this event was the anger and anguish that it inspired inside of Americans, one that no leader could have expected. It led to the declaration of war on Japan, after the Japanese bombed pearl harbor on December 7th 1941.

D-Day: this was when the Americans set out to free the mainland Europe

In the battle of midway, Americans destroyed 4 aircraft carriers from japan, a setback the was said to be unable to recover from

Dust Bowl

 

The Dust Bowl was a period in the 1930's where a series of sever dust storms covered certain regions in America, causing crops to die, and a failure in the productivity in farms. During this time there was also a huge drought that covered these same regions, making it nearly impossible to grow food. The winds were so strong, that any dirt that was no rooted to the ground, or filled with moisture, were thrown into the air, where they sometimes blackened the skies.

Cinderella Man

In the 1930s, the Great Depression hit America hard, and affected everybody in severe, and unimaginable ways. A perfect example of how the great depression affected families is the movie Cinderella man. In this motion picture, a fathers job is a professional fighter. In the year 1928, on November 30th, he won a fight and made $8,860 in a single night. Shortly after the fight he returns home, to which the scene cuts out on a picture of his cabinet, which on top had large sums of cash, and lots of jewelry. Then the movie goes a few years into the future. In 1933, Jimmy, the father, is now extremely poor. Fights only pay $30, and that's if he wins. His family lives in a one bedroom, with 4 children. Unable to pay for electricity, which is only a $19 bill, he has to send his kids away. All of his money that he had saved from past fights where he won thousands was invested into a company in the stock market that had took a really bad downfall, causing him to lose all of his money. At the time, many people lived in Hoover Ville's, which were shacks inside parks all huddled together, where the poorest of the poor lived. The way these people lived was on desperation, and minimal amounts of hope.

The separation of the upper and lower class was also growing. If you were rich, you got richer. If you were poor, you became poorer. In the movie, Jimmy's manager was also a close friend of his. one thing that this man did was always appear to be well off, which we later found out that he had to sell everything he had in order to keep his image. The effects on the social classes was a major influence on the later progressions of men and women in these classes. In all of these troubles, men became very stressed out and drank more than usual. This drove families and fiends apart, making everyone have enemies. Men also had to compete for jobs each day. The social aspect of life was also extremely affected by this, and forever influenced by what happened.

The New Deal

The New Deal was when a whole group of organizations started a whole bunch of programs, that started with laws passed by Roosevelt to start the three R's. These three R's were Relief, Recovery, and Reform, all to appeal to each class of person, lower, middle, and higher.

FDIC - Federal Deposit Insurance Commission: The purpose of this organization was to have the banks of America ensure stability, and it gave men and women insurance on their  money if the bank was robbed up to 250,000 dollars.

SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission): The purpose of this organization was to regulation the stock market, and prevent corruption.

TVA - Tennessee Valley Authority: The purpose of this organization was to provide electricity, navigation, flood control, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley.

SSA - Social Security Act: The purpose of this organization was to provide a social security system for Americans.

NLRA - National Labor Relations Board: The purpose of this was to control elections and labor unions in the united states.

WPA - Works Progress Administration: The purpose of this organization was to provide unemployed people with jobs doing public services.

 FLSA - Fair Labor Standards Act: The purpose of this organization was  to guarantee workers certain privileges, such as the maximum of the 44 hour work week, and the time and a half rule.

During the Prohibition, the sale and distribution of alcohol became illegal in the united states. Even though it became illegal to drink alcohol, many people still found ways to get it, and still indulged in its effects. This made everyone a criminal. People began to think of the idea of a law as something unworthy of their respect, and they began to lose respect for all laws in general. Overall this made society somewhat of a more dangerous place. The Following Photo of bootleggers, men who would smuggle alcohol into the us to distribute illegally. Bootleggers would sell their booze to people in special places known as speakeasies. Overall we learned from the prohibition that the best thing to do rather than to get rid of alcohol, was to make sure it was properly moderated.
